The Edison Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers are all lit up and beautifully decorated to help you get in a festive mood with their Holiday Nights!
Our weather is usually in the low 80's this time of year ...... and it's
very hard to believe that Christmas is around the corner! Taking a tour of the Edison Ford homes will get the season started.
Thomas Edison and Henry Ford and their families wintered in Ft Myers during the early 1900's in homes next door to each other, on the Caloosahatchee River.
You can tour the homes and grounds the month of December from 5:30-9PM, and Lee County residents can get a discount for the first few days.
We paid $10 instead of $15 for a self-guided Edison Christmas lights tour, or you can take a guided tour for $25, and pay only $20 on discount days. The Winter Estates are located at 2350 McGregor Blvd, (239)334-7419.
Different colored lights are wrapped around palm trees along the back of the homes, making them look like jewels.
The wraparound porches also sparkle with lights on beach-themed Christmas trees decorated with shells and starfish.
Both homes sparkle too ....... the interiors look just like they would've been decorated 100 years ago!
The dining room tables are set for a holiday party, presents are stacked up under Christmas trees, and even the bedrooms are adorned with holiday cheer.
The swimming pool and pool house were also decorated and I imagined how it must have been back in the olden days.
I also loved the secret garden, it's a lovely spot hidden by trees and shrubs with twinkly lights reflecting in the little pool.
Sponsors even decorated Thomas Edison's charming office for the holidays.
You can also tour Edison's lab, right behind the second biggest banyan tree in the world, and also walk through a garden of Christmas trees decorated by students from area schools.
After our tour, we were starving! So, we went to the Edison Restaurant, down the road at 3583 McGregor Blvd, (239)936-9348.
Get their Edison Burger, I got mine with bacon and sauteed onions ........ yum ...... the perfect ending to a lovely evening!
