Dinner started with rolls with olive oil and pesto for dipping
......... one of my favorites ......... and a surprise! They served a
complimentary Smoked Salmon Tart with dill and capers that was delicious.
Then, I had the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp Stuffed with Cream Cheese and Crab for an appetizer ....... Old Captiva's twist on the famous local Captiva dish of Bacon-Wrapped Barbeque Shrimp.
They were pretty good, but I think I still prefer the original dish! For my entree, I couldn't resist the Caribbean Grilled Grouper, rubbed with jerk spices and served with garlic butter, papaya salsa, and pumpkin tart.
It was amazing and an interesting combination of flavors. After all of that, can you believe I had room for dessert?
I had to try the Carrot Cake which was very good. It was dense and moist ........... just the way I like it ......... and made with coconut, pineapple and topped with berries. The frosting was perfect, not too sweet.
Some of the other dishes on their award-winning menu are Filet Mignon, Seared Duck Breast, Rack of Lamb, Veal Chop, and more ....... and many seafood choices. Everything sounds delicious and I hope to go back soon!
They are open for breakfast and dinner, dinner starts at
5:30PM. Call ahead for reservations and in case Old Captiva is closed
to the public due to a wedding or other event.
As you walk into the restaurant, check out the gift shop for something special or a souvenir.
Don't forget to go to Crows Nest next door for casual family dining, live music, and hermit crab races!
