South Seas Island Resort - Come to this amazing Captiva Island resort for your Florida family vacations or romantic getaways!
South Seas is HUGE .......... it takes up half of Captiva Island on the northern end.
The resort has something for everyone, and you have a choice of vacationing at their villas, cottages, condos, single family homes, suites, hotel rooms, or even timeshares.
Most of the accommodations are on the water, either bayside, gulfside, or on the marina. Each section of villas, homes, or cottages has their own pool along with the 3 pools in the main part of South Seas Island Resort. As a matter of fact, there are more than 20 pools in the entire resort.
No matter what you choose, you will love staying at this luxury resort with so many amenities!
Before you head into South Seas Island Resort, conveniently located across the street from resort's entrance is Chadwick's Square, with deli and groceries at The Captiva Provision Company, shops, gallery, Starbucks, and the Kay Kasperson Spa.
Captiva's post office is just up the street and the public entrance to Alison Hagerup Beach.
The popular Sanibel restaurant, Doc Ford's Rum Bar and Grill will be opening up soon at the shopping center.
When you first drive into the South Seas, you enter the part of the resort called the South Village.
You will first see the conference building with ballrooms, Holy Smokes BBQ restaurant, and fitness center which are accessible to the public.
A Pak N Ship and Hertz Car Rental are located just before the security gate and booth.
Just beyond and available only to guests, is the resort ......... and your first stop will be the Reception Center where you check in.
Behind the main building are the Tennis Villas and tennis school, plus the Bayside Villas, off to the east where we stayed ........ with pool and hot tub, and a small marina with bike, golf cart, and boat rentals.
The villas are basically suites in 3-story buildings with 1, 2, or 3 bedrooms and 1-2 baths, laundry facilities, open kitchen, living with pull-out couch, dining, and lanai.
All are luxuriously appointed. Kitchens are fully equipped, bath towels are thick and thirsty, my bed was like a cushy nest, and I liked that they had a hard pillow and a soft pillow for each person.
You will enjoy the views no matter where you stay at the resort, such as this view of the bay.
The NY Times can be delivered to your room for an extra charge. No smoking please, except on lanais.
Although breakfast is not included for your stay at South Seas, you don't have to pay for beach equipment such as umbrellas, beach towels, and lounges.
See our suite in the video below, along with a view of the marina and boat rentals:
The Gulfside Villas are on the other side of the street to the west. There's a picturesque lake in front of them with bridges for taking a lovely walk.
The best thing about these villas is that they look out onto the beach, which you can see in the video! The gulf villas also have their own pools.
Once, when I was walking to the beach, I saw a cute little armadillo trying to climb onto the boardwalk and then tumble off! I managed to get a short video of it as it foraged in the grass before scampering off:
Then, to get to the northern end of South Seas Island Resort called Northpointe, you'll want to drive, ride your bike, or catch the trolley because it's a couple of miles up Plantation Drive. The trolley stop is right behind the Reception Center.
You'll drive past the Beach Cottages, Beach Homes, and Longifolia Court ........... make sure you SLOW DOWN and follow the speed limit of 19 mph, watch for people walking and biking.
Continue driving up this narrow part of the island past the Gulf Cottages, Sandrift, Plantation Beach Club and Plantation Bay Villas.
Next comes the Hilton Vacation Office, more tennis courts, and the beautiful single-family Homes of Distinction.
Now you're gettin' there ....... to the central part of South Seas and where most of the action is!
First, you'll come to an intersection and to the east you'll see the lovely Harbourview Villas that face the marina.
Around the marina are the Marina Villas and Captiva Cruises, which offers beach and shelling, dolphin and wildlife, or sunset cruises.
We took a sunset cruise and you can see the harbour and Marina Villas in the video below:
Also around the marina is the South Seas Hotel for those who prefer that type of accommodation.
You'll come to the first of the restaurants inside the resort. Enjoy the fine dining at Harbourside Bar and Grill ........ sit outside with views of the marina.
Or, sit inside the beautifully decorated restaurant, they serve breakfast and dinner.
On the other side of the street is access to the Sunset Beach Bar and an outdoor beach party area next to it which could be perfect for a wedding ...... and, my favorite place, the wonderful beach!
The golf course and pro shop are also on that side and the gulf views are just gorgeous!
Then, there's the fabulous resort pool complex with 3 pools ....... one surrounded by sand and featuring a waterslide and the other 2 pools right on the bay with pool bar, slushy station for kids, Sanibel Sunglass Company and Swimtastic swim lessons huts.
If you can, go sit in the lounges over by the bay, where you can watch shorebirds and boats going by, or people fishing from the pier.
At the pool complex, you can eat breakfast or lunch at The Pointe, a Caribbean style grill.
To see more about The Pointe, Sunset Beach Bar, Scoops and Slices, and more resort eateries, go to my South Seas Captiva Dining page.
Your kids will love going to Scoops and Slices for ice cream, pizza, and their candy shop.
They can attend the Sanibel Sea School for hands-on marine education and activities. Learn about marine life, ecosystems, and conservation.
Or, they can go to Skully's Interactive Center with arcade, art classes, teen programs, and mini-golf.
Beyond Skully's is an inviting arbor that you can walk under that leads to ......
.......... the pier at Yacht Harbour Marina where you can go fishing, rent waverunners, or go parasailing.
South Seas Island Resort features a branch of the Colgate Offshore Sailing School, with classes for beginners to advanced sailors ...... for individuals, groups, and families, and also for women, business professionals, and universities.
You can shop for clothing and accessories at South Seas Island Outfitters or buy groceries, souvenirs, and other items at The Ship's Store.
Beyond the center of the resort are more accommodations at South Seas Club, the Cottages at South Seas, Plantation House, Seabreeze Villas.
Then, at the very tip of the island are the million dollar homes at Lands End Village!
They come with spectacular views of either the golf course or the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound at Redfish Pass, which separates Captiva from North Captiva, which you can see in the video below:
South Seas Island Resort is set up as 25% hotel rooms, 25% timeshares, and 50% whole ownership condos, villas, and homes for rental.
I think Captiva is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and South Seas is one of the most beautiful resorts I've ever been to.
